I had my share of good times in the journey of education. It is quite a typical route, with no major hiccups which I am grateful for. I have kept my direction and steps on the easy path, a safe and guided passage. Now that the ship is out of the harbour, into the blue water, it is up to me to make out what is to be ahead.
It isn’t easy to decide on a career. On one hand there are the opportunities based on the area of study, on the other hand there is the idea of adventure with a basic qualification. I went with the idea of what I did not want to do. I do not aspire to have a career in finance, marketing or sales, yet also not in depth with my field of studies. The job hunt was a broad based one, I treated it as a chance to hone my interview skills and to seek out what the real world wanted in an employee. Most of my applications went into the government agencies or ministries and I had a good time exploring the options. Having graduated earlier gave me good time and less competition for positions. There wasn’t much pressure as I seek out the various openings and hope for interesting jobs.
There were jobs which I was curious about but not too sure if it could be a career and those that were attractive because of stability. I consider myself as conservative in my career and landed offers which I desired. I am glad that I had the chance to make the choice and the decision has served me well. No job is perfect but it is all about how to manage expectations of the job and oneself.
